Costa Blanca - an introduction
The Costa Blanca or "white coast" was aptly titled 2500 years ago by Greek traders who founded the colony of Akra Leuka (white headland) near Alicante. Amid the rocky landscapes are fertile valleys and lush groves of oranges, almonds, lemons and olives with vineyards producing the sweet muscatel grape
- The Costa Blanca is part of the region of Valencia, which includes smaller localities such as Javea, Benidorm and Alicante - each boasting their own unique gastronomy and culture. The coastline of the Costa Blanca boasts no less than 38 blue flag beaches - an accolade which is awarded by the European Foundation of Environmental Education for having clean water and excellent facilities.
Within the Costa Blanca is a rugged landscape comprising of mountains and sculpted peaks creating a spectacular backdrop to the impressive beaches, all of which enjoy an impressive 2700 to 3000 hours of sunshine per year - this all helps make the Costa Blanca one of the most popular holiday destinations. not only that, but as the Costa Blanca like the Costa Calida part of "the Mediterranean zone" it enjoys mild winters and a low rainfall of approx 12 to 17 inches per annum
- Located just six kilometres from Benidorm, Albir has a long stretch of pebble beach which is separated from the larger town by rugged cliffs and tiny coves.
- L'Alfas de Pi is linked to Albir, which has retained it's unspoilt charm and rural character, with the ubiquitous Mediterranean pine offering a welcome shade in the summer months - and adding to the scenic quality of the region.
- The natural waterfall and springs of Callosa d'En Sarria can be found approx twelve kilometres away from L'Alfas de Pi.

- Playa de la Levante is located to the west, and is one of the more popular beaches with two kilometres of golden sands. To the east is the beach of Playa de Poniento which is usually less crowded and the shoreline is rock free.

- Benidorm has two beautiful bays split into two sandy crescents by a large rock (once the site of a castle). The old town and narrow streets is the Spanish part of Benidorm.
Benidorm also boasts the tallest building in Spain, and the tallest hotel in Europe - the hotel Grand Bali in Lacala (210 meters)
- Calpe is dominated by Penon de Ifach, a volcanic rock rising more than 300 meters above sea level.

- The Penon de Ifach is now a nature park protecting local plant and animal species, and is a popular attraction for conservationists.
- The summit can be reached within approx an hour, and on a clear day, the island of Ibiza is visible. During the climb you may be fortunate enough to see one of the colonies of Peregrine falcons or a species of seagull rested on the nature park.

Javea is situated between two headlands - Cap Sant Antoni to the north and Cap de la Nao to the south. the resort of Javea comprises of pockets of orange trees and pine forests - all concealing this smart residential area set in the hills
There is plenty to do in Javea as it boasts one of the finest beaches in Playa Arenal, it's calm and shallow waters make this ideal for children, and of a night time there is a funfair with games and rides on Paseo Amanecer opposite the beach.
For a more relaxed feel, visit Playa de la Grava, where the pebbly beach stretches from the small port of Javea - an ideal place for a leisurely stroll. During the evening - you could return to Playa Arenal where artists can be found parading their arts and crafts along the promenade
- Moraira is located between Javea and Calpe where a few streets rise behind the pretty harbour filled with yachts.
